Ronda has always attracted artists, writers and romantics from all over the world, including Washington Irving, Prosper Mérimée, Ernest Hemingway, Orson Welles and Rainer Maria Rilke, all surrendered to the unique charm of this city.
We walked through the Alameda del Tajo, the city’s botanical park with trees that are more than 200 years old—including an imposing Himalayan cedar and a century-old stone pine—as well as the most spectacular viewpoints in the city. From there we pass next to the Real Maestranza de Caballería, the oldest bullring in Spain, whose true history will be told to you by our on-site guide.
Next we cross the famous Puente Nuevo, which spectacularly spans the Tajo de Ronda, with a brief explanation about its construction in the 18th century. We wandered through the romantic streets of the old town, where Romans and Muslims already walked, marked by the impressive 18th century urban palaces that make Ronda such an exceptional city, until we reached the Church of Santa María la Mayor, an old mosque that after the Reconquista became the most important church in the province of Malaga.
